I don't know your plans, but if you're going to be in town on Sunday (4th of July) night, you HAVE to be aware of the fireworks. People go downtown well in advance of the 9:30 start time and settle in to advantageous viewing points. If you're driving, throw a couple of folding chairs in the car, in case you want to walk out for a good view. Getting from Station Square to E Carson St. is easy. That's where you find Fat Head's, Le Pommier, Mallorca and many other good places. You might stop at Yo Rita, also. Many good comments for Yo Rita on these boards.
If you're at Station Square, probably the easiest way to get to the ball park is by river boat. But then, there's the Regatta. You might check if the river boats to the ball park are running.
Here's just a couple of sites with information for that week-end.

If there is one place you HAVE to go in Pittsburgh, it is the Strip District. There you'll find awesome street food and restaurants. Chicken Latino is good, as is De Luca's, Sunseri's (get a sandwich with eggplant parm--so freaking good). Wandering around Penn Mac is always fun.
If you want fancier fare, either Mallorca for high class Spanish cuisine (I had the rabbit--it was great) or Le Pommier for french are good. They are within a block of one another on East Carson Street. The Milkshake Factory on East Carson has great milkshakes and chocolate. Hope this helps!
