outdoor and kid friendly near Washington Square Village

A friend is coming over for an early dinner and wants casual and outdoorsy if possible. A 3 year old will be along and will be happy if the place has French fries. My friend and I will want a place with beer or wine. The ideal sort of place would have been Noho Star but their outdoor area has often been closed recently because of construction. But maybe that gives a sense of the sort of thing I'm looking for. My mind's gone blank on other ideas.

Any suggestions?

Actually, I'm in Washington Square Village so indeed something nearby would be good. Jane's a great idea although I've noticed that lately it tends to crowd up pretty early and that might be a problem with an impatient toddler in tow.
