As a "local" (15 years) I can definitely say that foodie food is rare to find in Daytona. Leanhs's changed locations, but the chef stayed in the orignal location on Beville Rd. The new restaurant is called Taipei Tokyo - Chinese food was really good, but not crazy for the sushi.
The Spanish River Grill is absolutely the best dining experience in the area - just read a post on FaceBook that they made a strawberry infused vodka with basil for martinis http://www.thespanishrivergrill.com. The calamari, flat bread and chocolate bread pudding are my favorites. I've had just about everything on the menu and I've never been disappointed.
For sushi try Shiki on the beach in New Smyrna. The Ahi Nachos are out of this world. http://www.allmenus.com/fl/new-smyrna...
The Deck down under is good for a fish sandwich and beer (not sure if they have microbrews). Its a no frills place with a great view.
Hope you have a good trip.

Are you deadset on staying in Daytona? A short drive up 17-92 into Deland will land you at Norville Barnes for dinner and sister-pub, Abbey, for more microbrews than you can taste in a week (and still remember any of them). The staff is friendly and helpful, food has creativity and wonderful flavor, live music at Abbey from 9pm to 12. I think it's a must-try for a visit to Central Fl. If you want to try Florida microbrews, they serve Saint Somewhere and Holy Mackeral (maybe more-- I get distracted by the Belgians).

re: clane
Niiiice. I work at a microbrewery so that's right up my alley, and Bob, the owner/brewmaster @ Saint Somewhere is a friend of mine (and a great guy too!) A group of us already have reservations at the beach, but I'm the foodie/beer dork in the group so the food reco's are on me :)
thanks for the help guys!

a 20minute drive on Rt 95 south to New Smyrna Beach is great . Relatively food spot, Off the Hook,, or Flip flops (featured on Kitchen Nighmares, "that's Amore", Spanish River Grill is the best
Good luck. I'm going down this weekend as well.

Good luck with that ;-)
One time when we were over there for the 500 we went to what was supposed to be a "fine dining" restaurant that was at the top of a round hotel or condo. Can't remember the name. Anywhooooo I order beef Bourgignon and I was literally served dinty moore beef stew in a bread bowl.
I like the deck Down Under for Fresh fried seafood and cold beer. I think the best thing I have ever eaten in Daytona was a smoked turkey leg at the track.›3 Replies
