where to find corn tortillas calgary

I am new to Mexican food and want to try a recipe calling for corn tortillas. So far I have just checked Safeway and Co-op, but only see flour tortillas? Any suggestions on where else I should look? Perhaps I need to go to a speciality store? Thanks.

I get an enormous big bag of real corn tortillas in Forest Lawn at La Tiendona - 1836 36 Street SE. I'd guess you get between 60-75 for about $5. Fry them in a dry cast iron skillet and they will have you on your knees!

...And I picked up some milk at the little Family Foods on 17th SW (next to Jaro Blue) and THEY have corn tortillas. I'd say you have dozens of options.

i agree with the others about Las Tortillas, but just wanted to point out that Co-op actually DOES carry corn tortillas, but they are located on a small stand in the bakery/deli area, NOT alongside other tortillas in either the bread section or the "mexican" section with the Old El Paso flour tortillas... that's right, co-op has 3 different locations for tortillas. Why on earth anyone would think it clever to place the tortillas in 3 different locations throughout the store is beyond me... good grief!

My local Safeway does the same thing. Have to wonder who makes these decisions. If it isn't at the store level then the level above is micro-managing because the three stores I rotate through don't have things in the same place.

As far as I am concerned the corn tortillas at safeway are not really worth finding to begin with.

There are lots of places. Las Tortillas has been mentioned. You can also buy them at Boca Loca in the Beltline, at Salsita off 14 St NW and Northmount Dr, at Tres Marias at CFM and at its own store off 34th Ave in Marda Loop, and there are several Latin American market scattered around the city.

You can also get Tres Marias at some other stores such as Planet Organic or Amaranth if you that is more convenient for you.

Superstore carries corn tortillas but it's their Blue Menu brand; they're pretty good.
