A Swedish princess and her consort touring the food spots of NOLA

So, now we are leaving New Orleans after one week of eating. We would firsdt of all like to state that we everywhere we went felt secure, welcomed and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, whether touring Cemetery no 1 or driving through the ward towards Chalmette and the Mississippi beaches. We would like to thank All Chowhounders for Your kind suggestions. Here is our review:
May 12th: Cochon. For USD 80 we received 4 grilled oysters which tasted deliciously, one very small plate of assorted charcuterie (dry tasso, OK pork tenderloin and an OK rillette) , 2 drinks, a lemonade and a very small helping of pork cheeks. Everything was ok but minuscule in helpings. Not a great start. Locale full of people. Hardly room to sit, let alone hear.
May 13th. Lunch at Bayona. Lovely cool locale, 2 drinks, one sweetbread which was perfect, one mixed lamb grill and one abita amber. USD 65. A nice experience with friendly staff. Wouldn't mind going back.
May 13th, evening. Casamento's. A diosaster. Slovenly, completely disinterestid staff which practically threw the food at You without even looking at You. Oyster shuckers OK though. We had a beer, two dozen NOLA oysters and a plate of very greasy calamari and a plate of completely dry crab claws! This in a place famous for seafood. We were so disamused we went into the La petite Grocery instead which had a happy hour. We got two nice drinks and two plates of very good broiled oysters for nothing, in a calm, clean environment. Casamento's is supposed to be tiled for easy cleaning. I can tell You the floor wasn't. I will never go back there. La Petite is quite another story though.
May 14th. Trip to the shopping in Gulfport. Dinner at Brigtsen's. The place completely packed. Nice staff but oppressive environment in a shotgun house filled to capacity with people. We had2 drinks, sweetbreads not as good as at Bayona's ( too long time on the stove rendering them rubbery), one abita beer and mixed grill. USD 60. OK but nothing to go so far for.
May 15th: Visit to the plantations! Breakfast at mothers. Two ordinary po-boys with drippings, ham and roast beef. They didn't have oyster ones in the morning. OK.
Lunch at Nottoway plantation. Awesome crawfish etouffee.
Dinner at Cafe Feelings. A nice bottle of Oregon Pinot Gris, seats in the garden room, wonderful shrimp etouffee, crab cakes, Fish florentine and shrimp clemenceau for USd 120. Owner personally serving us. Wonderful piano playing by mr McDermott. Sad to leave.
May 16th: Dinner at Luke. 1 dozen oysters, 12 overcooked shrimp and a bottle of Cotes de Jura. They brought out the wrong wine and forgot our main course ( Pig feet). However, the pig feet were struck off the bill. A minuscule portion of three fried balls of unmentionables anyway. Bill sans pig feet still USD 85. We were distinctly underwhelmed.
May 17th: Lunch at emerils. 4 grilled oysters, a pork chop and creme brulee for USD 19 p p! What a find! Perfect service and perfect taste. Dinner at The Mycobacterial society of the American Thoracic Society, Hilton Riverside. A buffet of as many oysters one would like, fried chicke, blackened redfish and bread pudding. Yum.
May 18th. No lunch. We were invited to dinner at Galatoire's so skipped our own booking. 24 people who received 1 glass of white wine, one glass of red wine, a very small coffeecup size of oyster and arhichoke soup which most people left, a plate of fish meuniere with "crab" on top along with plain boiled asparagi and broccoli, a pecan pie and coffee. Before we had finished eating they gave us the bill, they closed the doors to outr room and the bill was USD 1697!!!! I am so very glad I didn't have to pay for this, which I would have thought would be the highlight of the trip!!! Shame, Galatoire's, just because we were conventioneers???
May 19. After having suffered severe flooding and missing out on the Commander's palace brunch we decided to have lunch instead. Seated in the garden room, festive atmosphere, everyone having 3 super cheap multicolored martinis. We had that s well, and a gumbo, a ceviche, fish of the day and cochon au lait. USD 40!!! This was one of the nicest meals in the city and in the best atmosphere. Dinner: We had abandoned hope and thought-lunch was actually very good at Emeril's. Let' s try it!
We were served a bottl;e of Oregon Pinot blanc, Rabbit remoulade, Nicely fried calamari With olives, Fish of the day Andouille and Boudin on red cabbage and Giant Frog legs. USD 150 total but perfect service, enormous portions and very nice ambience.
So, our final verdict is as follows:

    1. Thank you for a good review. I think most local people don't go beyond oysters at Casamentos.

      I'm glad you had a good evening at Feelings, we don't hear many reviews from there.

      I happen to agree with your take on Couchon but I'm in a very small minority that feels that way.

        Casamentos is best known for their fried oyster loaf.

        I too agree re: Cochon.

        Sorry you missed the $20 3 course lunch at August.

        re: Luke best for 25cent oysters/ half price drinks during their daily happy hour. Oysters had been discontinued due to the spill but I hear they're back now at 50cents.

      2. Some restaurants are right for some things. Galatoire's - table of 25- bad idea. Casamentos is about raw oysters and fried oysters and fried shrimp. Bad service and bad hygene don't cut it though. I get claustrophobic at Brightsens also. Ditto Boucherie, Upstairs at Clancy's, One Restaurant. Fine when its slow, but otheriwise. ch
