what is a great restaurant very near NYU to meet a friend for a late dinner?

I am looking for recs for restaurants near NYU, north end of Washington Square. I am not a big fan of Babbo or Lupa, was hoping for recs of restuarants somewhere between 5th and 6th Avenue but can wander further afield for a great spot. Cost and cuisine dont really matter--just looking for a good food and good atmosphere to catch up with old friend.

Thanks for any tips.

I guess Otto is off your list too? If you are doing this dinner in a long while, you could do Minetta Tavern- reservations go quickly there.

Minetta Tavern has made it very clear that just plain folks can forget about reserving anything other than 5:30 or after 11 p.m., and those reservations do go quickly.

Annisa has just reopened. We've never eaten there, but our daughter and son-in-law had dinner there prior to the fire closure. They liked the food and found the quiet atmospherics very pleasant.

If Otto is on your list. Definitely go. Great pizza.
