Blue Bottle's special Chez Panisse blend

Has anyone tried it?

If I love Blue Bottle but don't usually order coffee when I go out to eat, is it worth ordering when I go there? Is it that much different from their other coffees?

  1. Wouldn't expect it to be so shockingly different that you should order it out of your usual drinking patterns. And there's a good chance that it's not different at all, but just has a snazzy new name so customers get curious and wonder if they should...uh...try it :-)

Chex Panisse makes a very good cup of coffee. Had it a few weeks ago. For what it's worth, to me it tasted better than the coffee I get at my local Blue Bottle purveyor. And probably better than what you make at home.

Brewed coffee is not prepared to order at Chez Panisse. They prepare it in a large press pot and hold it in a thermos. For this reason, I wouldn't expect a great coffee there, whatever the blend, unless you get lucky and they've just made a new batch. For a long time they were using a Nicaraguan coffee that wasn't one of Blue Bottle's better offerings. Not sure what the new blend is.
