Not that Motorino and Ssam Bar, both of which I've been to, aren't good suggestions, but since dee dee is visiting and does not know the areas, she should be made aware that they are in the East Village while The Strand is not.

re: small h
You're right. My mistake. The Strand is not in Chelsea, so I've changed that. But The Strand is not in the East Village either. I'm a pretty fast walker, and I don't think I can walk east on 12th and get from from B'way to Motorino just off the corner of 1st Av. in five minutes.
Thanks for the compliment on my photos, fm1963. :)

re: RGR
You'd be walking from Broadway to 3rd to 2nd to 1st. I bet you could do it in five minutes - I average one minute per long block, myself. Broadway is east of 5th down there. So the Strand (bookstore) is indeed in the East Village, below 14th St. & east of 5th Ave. (See map, upper right side of this page.)

re: RGR
I assume the OP meant the Strand Bookstore and not the Strand Hotel.

re: princeofpork
Yes, it's two blocks below Union Square, and it is in the East Village. Any doubt, just google it. Worth walking over to the block Motorino is on, as you also have the choice of Pata Negra (very good tapas, wine, sherry) or an ordinary French bistro if that's your preference, all next to each other. To say nothing of mac 'n' cheese. The walk is easy.
