Good Mexican in VA Beach?

elacklen May 19, 2010 02:59 PM

We just moved to the area, and having lived for 5 years in California, are sorely missing our fave Mexican places.
We live in the Pembroke/Town Center/Thoroughgood area of Va Beach.

I don't think we're mexican food snobs by any means. We just want a place where we can get mole sauce, black beans, and maybe see some cilantro or veggies being used? LOL.

So far we've tried Plaza Azteca, Guadalajara, and El Mejor Rodeo.

My parents live in NC and we don't seem to have a problem finding good Mexican there.

Plaza Azteca
1249 Cedar Rd Ste 110, Chesapeake, VA 23322

El Mejor Rodeo
1716 Pleasure House Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23455

Live right near you. For the real thing, try Tiende Jesse's in Ocean View. You might be the only non mexican there (that is if you are not mexican)
Just love the chorizo tacos. Its not East LA or Austin etc, but of course we are in south hampton roads

El Rey Taqueria in Norfolk has always received a big thumbs up here, as well as Jessy's in Ocean View.

I like Mi Casaita on the corner of bonney rd. and Rosemont. Also Abuleo's at greenbriar is wonderful, even if it is a chain
