Here on a consulting assignment - yummy dinner take-out?

I'm staying in the Union Square area, and I find myself at a weird disadvantage. I'm working - if not for my San Francisco client, then catching up on other work and writing my newsletter. I need to be able to take food back to my hotel room.

But not just any food. I like GOOD food. I really hate hotel food - so freaking generic. Where, in the Union Square vicinity, can I grab delicious and authentic and yummy take-out?

It would be a real shame to travel to SF (or anywhere with a good food culture) and not at least have one decent or fun meal away from work.

Take a look at this, the first 3 links will show places around Union Square that's good for solo. If nothing else, you'll get recommendations for places for take out.

Out the Door in the basement of the Westfield Shopping Center. http://www.outthedoors.com/ Amazing vietnamese - all local sustainable ingredients. Run by James Beard nominated chef Charles Phan. You really can't go wrong.

Loved Out The Door! Our favorites there were the rice noodles with dungeness crab and green papaya salad. I just got back from a trip and we stayed in the Union Square area. One morning, we took the Muni Metro J line to Tartine Bakery. It was amazing. I tried to get my husband, who comes home today, to go there again and bring some pastries back but he didn't have time.

Eden's Turkish, down the block from Shalimar. The adana kebap is great and I imagine would travel well.

Shalimar on Jones between O'ferrell and Geary. The area is a bit funky so don't go too late in the evening.

I've ordered delivery from Lers Ros several time and it has consistently been fresh, hot, and delicious. I crave their tom yum pak...
