Alexander's Steakhouse, Cupertino - open for Lunch (Reuben & 3 kinds of Ramen) - anyone?
Actually news to me (reading it recently in a review) that Alexander's had even _closed_ for lunch for a while, because they offered lunch for years. At which I tried not the Reuben, but the French Dip sandwich, very good but vast (in the deliberate overcrowded style of NYC's Carnegie Deli) and really should serve two (this from someone who can eat a LOT). Also tried their lunch hamburger (on another day!), about half a pound, grilled and garnished to order, and not bad, as you'd expect from a high-end steakhouse. (In general, in this era when fast-food chains purvey most of the US restaurant hamburgers eaten, and in the Peninsula and South Bay especially, amazingly few restaurants make an honest fresh hamburger of the kind you can easily make at home. Searching for them is a perennial thread topic on this and other discussion sites dealing with southern Bay Area restaurants. I've read good things about one modern restaurant that does specialize in hamburgers: Seven, in Santa Clara near the University of the same name, I think -- but not tried yet.)
Still eagerly awaiting Melanie's definitive appraisal and ranking of Alexander's lunch ramen offerings, though!
