I want to meet a business contact at a nice wine bar (not too extremely expensive). They work in the 5900 block of Wilshire. Any suggestions?

How about Tasca Wine Bar on 3rd St.? I really like their arancini and braised short rib. I also believe they have a happy hour on the weekdays.

I love Tasca - I don't know why it doesn't get more love on this site - although I'm glad not to have to make reservations weeks in advance!

Hey Emme - that's a really interesting-looking menu. Have you been and can you recommend any particulars?

i've had a variation of the seafood salad. things i've either tasted or been with others that have enjoyed: corn on the cob, salmon tartare, goat cheese and grapefruit salad, black cod, bison burger, roasted cumin cauliflower..

sometimes i do just go for wine though.

Wasn't this a chicken restaurant, same owner as Bloom Café?

Yep, but they changed it to something a little bit more exciting. The wine bar is the most interesting part, the food is good but not mind-blowingly so.

Vinoteque, on Melrose, just a block from Village Idiot (around Gardner).

Went there last month, had a pinot noir that the server recommended--very very good. Had the duck, the pork tenderloin, and I think a rocket salad (I had a lot of wine :) ). The duck itself was fine, but I didn't really like the dijon-y sauce that came with it. The pork was outstanding, would definitely go back just for that. But even more, the atmosphere is what I'm most excited about-as I live i the neighborhood and we were in need of a summertime outdoor space. Feels just like you are in NY, with the buildings surrounding the courtyard. About $100 for three dishes, three glasses of vino and two beers. And dessert (some pear crumble yummy thing)., not including tip.

Pentimento at LACMA--right across the street, open until 8, closed on Wednesdays. But not new....
