Looking for a Homemade Ice Cream Sandwich

rifkind81 May 18, 2010 11:43 AM

I had a Blue Bunny at the zoo for the first time in ages, and remember reading about a few spots that were making their own. Any opinions or direction?

Ronnybrook Dairy uses their own ice creams in sandwiches. But I have no idea if they make the cookie part themselves or if they are someone else's. Adore Ronnybrook.

Perhaps you might want to pick up a couple cookies from Levain Bakery and pop down the street to Grom for gelato to make your own.

Now that's an awesome idea. I will have to try that out myself. Thanks! :)

The idea is very tempting but wouldn't Levain's cookies be too thick to make a proper sandwich?

I haven't been but the Meatball Shop in LES is supposed to have excellent ice cream sandwiches. I had a great one at Saltie in Brooklyn (I know it belongs on the Outer Boroughs, but in case the OP is willing to travel to B-Burg) with their homemade salted caramel ice cream not too long ago. I also heartily second Ronnybrook's ice cream sandwiches!

              Perhaps Jacques Torres then?

NYC's Top 10 Ice Cream Sandwiches:

Apparently Peter Pan, Xie Xie, and Meatball Shop also do them.

I will vouch that the ice cream sandwiches at Jacques Torres and Bierkraft are heavenly.

Have you had the ones at bobo restaurant? They have one with earl grey tea ice cream! Great grown-up version of the classic.
