30th birthday dinner for 10-12 people

So I'm looking for a restaurant that can handle a party of 10-12 people for my 30th birthday. Type of food is not really a major concern, I just want it to be good.

Any suggestions? We'd like to keep it no more than $100 a person so I think that gives a good amount of room to work with.

I'm fairly adventurous so I'm good with most anything. Some of the people coming are a bit more reserved in what they eat. I want to make sure we go somewhere that everyone can enjoy, but in the end, it's my party :)

Also, we will be having a big bbq the next weekend at my house so we're trying to stay away from places that are very meat focuses (the brazilian meat places and any sort of BBQ joint are out).

  1. I just had a dinner for about 12 people for work at Mia Dona on E. 58th Street and I have to say, what a meal and an unbelievable value. It may have been owing to the fact that it was a weeknight, but here's what we got: 4 courses (app, pasta, main and dessert, all full-sized portions and actually ended up being a crazy amount of food but so delicious, think a choice of 3 or 4 for each course) AND unlimited wine (very good, a red and a white that they serve by the glass regularly) all for $70 per person. And the food really was very tasty. You may not be into the midtown east location, but I recommend looking into it.

      Mia Dona is not birthday-worthy.
Take a look at tomorrow's NYT restaurant review.

    2. It's best to specify a neighborhood if you have one in mind, otherwise you're likely to get suggestions that are not feasible given where you and the rest of your group will be staying. One centrally located place to consider is Tir Na Nog, at 33rd and 8th. It has outstanding food and drink for a reasonable price and handles large groups very well, and might even give you your own area of the restaurant, next to the upper bar.
