Knife Sharpening Edinburgh

Hi,

I bought a nice set of Global knives about a year ago and it is time to have them sharpened. I am from Australia so I don't know where to get knives sharpened in Edinburgh.

In Sydney you just take your knives down to the key cutter and they sharpen knives. Apparently that's not how it works here....... or so the key cutter told me when I walked in brandishing a knife asking to have it sharpened (talk about embarrassing)!

Does anybody know where I can get a knife sharpened in Edinburgh?

Nick, I had the same problem when I moved to Europe, I found a few dubious places but nothing I trusted (I used to use Fraser & Hughes when in Sydney). I didn't think to try the local butchers and Howler's suggestion is good.

I eventually bought a Furitechnics "Furi Tech Edge Pro" which is very simple to use and gives a professional edge (and is used by many chefs). It works really well on most knives, far better than any other system I have tried, and will be fine with the Globals. The only knife I wouldn't use it on is a single ground shashimi knife (i.e. a kniife with one flat side) but standard chefs knives work well. I am pretty certain you can buy Furi in the UK, maybe mail order, if not Peter's of Kensington (mail order) has them and they are generally available in Aus at DJ's etc. Here is a link: http://www.gohospitality.com.au/c/Fur...

try your local butcher - thats where i get my knives sharpened. if he doesn't do it for you, he'll surely know who does.
