I am also headed for Ottawa and am looking for some suggestions for a resto that might please my 90 year old mom. Do any of the major hotels have a decent meal? Chateau or Westin? What do you think of Le Cafe or Juniper?

Bekta is probably the most consistent- innovative yet not over the top or pretentious- choice.

Not cheap but worth it; balance that out by saving money on shawarma- Marroush, 309 Elgin St- down the stairs- often referred to as the Shawarma Nazi (after Seinfeld's soup nazi); Pho is also very good and cheap in Ottawa- many places on Somerset- the Vietnam Palace is a little nicer than most- and no MSG.

I second Beckta. It is not cheap, but worth every penny. I would recommend the wine pairing with your meal; the wines really enhanced our food when we dined there.

        The Wellington Gastopub

Have a Shwarma or go for some poutine too if you get a chance.

Beavertail pastries in the Market are also a local specialty.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Wellington Gastropub. A little bit out of the way, but worth the drive.
