Dinner for 50 in Columbia, SC
I am planning a dinner for about 50 guests, many from out of town. The event will take place on a Saturday night and I'm looking to serve people good food. I am open to using caterers or to booking a room in a restaurant, and I welcome suggestions for both, or for alternative ideas. Thanks.

Thanks chowhoundgirl and sethacke for your suggestions. I had forgotten about Solstice. It may be too small for me but I will keep it in mind. Spotted Salamander does look good. One option I am considering is 300 Senate and using their in-house catering, Dupre Catering. Further suggestions welcome.

I second chowhoundgirl's recommendation of Solstice. If you can work something out with them, do it. They have amazing food, probably the best in Columbia for their type of cuisine.
Also, I'll tell you what I just told a chowhounder asking about a rehearsal dinner. I've never used them for anything, but you should look at Spotted Salamander Catering (http://spottedsalamandercatering.com/). I've seen them mentioned on the All Local Farmer's Market website, and the food sounds pretty good.

n2s, just to throw out an idea... but with no knowledge, there are a couple places near the lake - Jasmine House, and a place next to it, and a place on Corley Mill Road whose name escapes me as well. I don't know if they cater but maybe you could call the Lake Murray Visitor's Center and get some info from them?
