Atlanta Dinner Before Concert

LItransplant May 17, 2010 04:50 PM

Hi,

Heading to Atlanta for concert at Philips Arena and want to dine out beforehand. I seek a restaurant that will be one of those memorable "Oh my word" dining experiences. Transplant from NYC here, and haven't had a good dining experience since moving South. Help! Is Woodfire Grill any good? I've read that that's a pretty serious farm-to-table spot.

Bacchanalia - Quatrano and Harrison brought farm-to-table to Atlanta and that is the most "ohmyword" spot I know in the city. Cakes & Ale in Decatur is a close second IMO.

They don't serve dinner till 6 and I may be in jeans. Need to eat at 5. Any other suggestions?

Check Repast and Dogwood..both fairly close to Philips.
Restaurant Eugene and Woodfire are good suggestions but farther away...Cakes and Ale is not close (when you consider traffic, time of day, etc.). Although you could take MARTA to Decatur to and from Philips.

Abattoir serves dinner at 5 (part of the Bacchanalia team). This is a straight shot to Philips on the west side.

depends on what an "oh my word" experience is for you. Are you looking for a fine dining experience only or are you open to having some southern food, mexican food, ethiopian, korean, vietnamese, or BBQ, all of which are better in Atlanta than in NY.

I'm not trying to be critical or anything, I understand where you're coming from. When I left NY for Dallas, every high end restaurant I went to (with very rare exceptions) was incredibly disappointing.

Repast looks absolutely perfect and what I had envisioned. Thank you!!!!
