Lump crab meat in montreal

I love me some crab cakes - but up to now have been unable to find fresh lump crab meat in montreal.

It must be available somewhere, because I have had crab cakes at both kitchenette and cafe griffintown, and it seemed like fresh meat...

So, my question is as the tile reads - where can I find unfrozen lump crab meat in montreal.

Barring that, has anyone used the frozen canned stuff to make crab cakes (available at IGA), and how were the results?

Thanks!

the brand IGA carries is sometimes sold at poissonrie du marche (atwater) at a much higher price. I have used it a couple of times and found it to be ok.

I don't know what the restaurants or anybody else have been doing, but I've been boiling and shelling blue crabs at home to make crab cakes.

You are a brave soul. I am only recently starting to like seafood, and embarassingly have never shelled a crab (or lobster), and wouldn't even know where to start in terms of choosing, cooking, and shelling a crab.

May have to try to frozen stuff to start... then work my way up?
