Desperately seeking fresh kaffir lime leaves

People tell me they see kaffir lime leaves at the asian markets but I never do. Bangkok 54 does not have. If you see at any NOVA market, please post immediately so I can run right over.

Thanks for all the tips. I finally bought a lime tree plant in Wheaton and it has survived many months. It is growing well on my deck with my Thai bird chilies and Thai basil. So I have fresh year around.

From what I have been told, kaffir lime leaves are not currently being imported, due to some sort of governmental interdiction. It's supposed to be temporary. If you go on-line and do a search for kaffir limes leaves you can find a lot of places that sell them - but they're "not currently available." However, you can order powdered leaves, which are supposedly an acceptable substitute.

They are grown domestically though. You can still find them around.

I just got back from Duangrat's Asian Market on Rte 7, just around the corner from the restaurant. They have a few baggies of frozen leaves left. They were unmarked, priced for $1.99 in little plastic baggies, because I'm told they come from the owner's tree. Because they pick the leaves themselves, you should call first to make sure they have some in stock. But again, I just came from there and there were at least 4 more baggies of them (today they were in freezer section 10).

Kmp is right. I was there today and saw them in small plastic bags in their freezer section.

Bangkok 54 Market has kaffir lime leaves available about 70% of the times I'm there. Usually they are frozen but at times they are fresh and in the back fridge with the mint, Thai basil, and other veggies. My understanding is that the owner brings them from her own tree. Did you ask them when they would be getting them again? Sometimes instead of looking around for them I just ask the register person, and they often end up either grabbing some from the back or telling me they won't have them for a few more days.

Also, Duangrat's occssionally has frozen ones.

The real question is where to get fresh galangal and coriander root. Those are impossible to get a hold of in my experience.

Wegman's has all of the above.
