Best Pre Theater near Lincoln Center?

Hi everyone,

I have read the previous boards on this topic but still have a few questions.

I am looking to take my grandmother out for dinner prior to going to see South Pacific and am looking for a restaurant that is good but not very very expensive. A good pre theater menu would work well.

I have looked into Picholine but I do not see a pre theater menu on their website. Do you know if this still exists?

Is Cafe Luxembourg walking distance? Is it good?

Also, what other great restaurants would you recommend in walking distance? Nothing too modern, just elegant with good food and nice ambience.

I would like to spend about $60pp.

Thanks!

Picholine does have a bar menu that offers a 3 course prix fixe for $40.

Another good option is Bar Boulud, for excellent charcuterie and upscale bistro fare. Their 3 course pre-theater menu is $42.

I wouldn't bother with Cafe Luxembourg. The food at Bar Boulud is much, much better.

      Thanks for the info.

One of the reasons I was thinking of Cafe Luxembourg was because they have profiteroles but would you know of somewhere else that has profiteroles in the area? Maybe we could go there following the show.

Cafe Fiorello, right across the street from Lincoln Center, has excellent profiteroles. I'd recommend that you ask for extra chocolate sauce on the side. The food is also very good, though overpriced. You should be able to get by for under $60 pp.
