Perfect day in Corona, Queens...
Miniature Golf at Science Museum, Science Museum, and Science Museum playground--followed by lots and lots of absolutely fantastic empanada's at Empanada Cafe (vandoren) in Corona--2 tables in side and some seating outside--sat inside at bigger table---plantain and cheese, vegetable, spinach and ricotta, sausage and potato, shredded chicken, meat, vegetable and ricotta, pesto mozzarella, --and some more--we kept eating and eating--love the hot sauce, too...we ate about 15 of them..between 3 of us..(and one of us is a wee little one!) All of the fillings so extrememly FRESH. People streaming in the entire time we were there, that place must do a helluva business.
Then off to Timmy O's Frozen custard, this place is just a gem. Had Perfect Vanilla with rainbow sprinkles--their Vanilla is perfection--and Chocolate with hot fudge--tasted the strawberry of the day, but it just wasn't strawberry enough for me...had the most perfect Vanilla shake I've ever had, done perfectly. They are super nice and friendly there--
Took a walk down to Nixtamal to see what was going on there, lively crowd there at about 9pm--seems like they might not have the side area in use anymore, or perhaps it will be for the summer? Not sure...anyway, looks like they've added a few more things on their menu..they didn't use to have vegetable taco's and now they do..wish they would add some shrimp taco's...
Anyway, we really like this place, and the owner is very sweet. Will hit it again soon....
So many in line at the Lemon Ice King, and frankly, there should be lines at Timmy's--wish Timmy's were in a different location where they would get more foot traffic--I'm worried about their survival there....please go if you haven't been, it's just a great place.
All of these places are destination spots, not just neighborhood places--if you're coming to Flushing Meadow Park, or the Science Museum, or a Mets Game, check these places out if you have never been, or return to them if you've neglected them. They are all just great.
