Moved "up" here from SF a year and a half ago. (Actually moved to Applegate near Auburn) Anyway, would loved recommendations on upscale dinner restaurants in the Roseville and Granite Bay area. That's an area I haven't explored yet. Someone mentioned Huff's, but she had a cute Russian accent and I can't find that anywhere!
She was probably talking about Hawk's in Granite Bay. Roseville is a bit of a culinary wasteland, but La Provence gets good mentions.
Here's a search that should give you more info:
It isn't upscale by any stretch, but be sure to check out Golden Dragon in Rocklin. Very good Szechuan food, but you have to ask for the "Special Menu."
Hawks is great. The pizaa place (pizza Antiqua)in the same center is great too. On Douglas.
Fartehr up on Douglas is Granitos. The newest owner has brought this little place back to life. Great wine store next door too.
Dominick's Deli is great. Excellent pizza and great deli.
Akebono (same center) is really good.
Fins is a decent seafood place. (corner of Douglas and Sierra College).
There is a great pie and sandwich place on Douglas, west of I80. At Keener I think. hard to find but they have some very unusual pies.
Mikuni is by the theaters.. Great rolls and a happening sopt in town.
Crush is awesome.(my friend Misty is the bartender there so say Hi!) So is Paul Martins...
Jimboys tacos at the Roseville Auction are the best things ever. Much better here than at the outlets..

It has been a while since I lived in the area so my stuff isn't that fresh anymore..
Akebono, Not sure if it is, but the name suggests so.
And Pizza Antica is closed, that is such a shame. The other branches are listed on the website but not Granite Bay anymore. Sad.
5540 Douglas Blvd, Granite Bay, CA 95746
I lived near Douglas and Sierra College Blvd. for a near in 2004-2005 and as I recall one of my favorite places was Piatti on Douglas just west of Sierra College Blvd. It was more like eating in the Bay Area, with a sophisticated menu and locally procured produce. It's certainly worth checking out. Has a nice bar with a simplified food menu. Service was great.
3003 Douglas Blvd., Roseville, CA 95661
If you are interested in wine, La Provence has half-price night on Wednesday, which allowed me to spluge on a Côte Rôtie that was very nice but way too young. My Wednesday favorite is one of their great hamburgers and a bottle of A. Rafanelli Zin. Dominick's Deli has an excellent selection of Italian wines at great prices. I can't resist buying a couple of extra bottles every time I dine there.
Well, we tried Hawk's tonight, and I've never been more disgusted by a meal in my life. Cold, tasteless, disgusting meatloaf (prix fixe menu, so it couldn't be avoided) filled with carrots, topped with carrots and peas, straight out of a 7th grade home ec class gone bad. Carrot soup that was tasteless and poorly prepared, with ginger cream that didn't even resemble anything remotely related to ginger. I could go on and on...but I've seriously never been so disappointed and downright disgusted by a meal, anywhere.
