Dinner before Village Vanguard...and dessert after...
We'll be going to Village Vanguard on a Saturday for the 9:00 set, we're out-of-towners, and are looking for someplace for an early dinner, maybe within walking distance. I've made a reservation at Le Gigot, but not convinced this is our best bet. Looking for good food in a comfortable, not to frantic setting. Going to Le Bernardin on this trip, so don't want too high-end or seafood. Any suggestions?
Husband will be needing coffee, and probably dessert after the show...and good suggestions in the VV area, or in our hotel in the Chelsea area?

ha! guess you went to see Bill Frisell. i had reservations for the 9pm show also on Saturday but we opted out following a full day of eating. lunch at Momofuku Noodle Bar for Fried Chicken Dinner and then a late afternoon snack at Shake Shack put us down and out. hope you enjoyed the show (and dinner).

perilla is a good choice. semi neighborhood spot with great food...comfortable but also a nice place to dine. thats about a 3-4 minute walk...closer than le gigot.
other ideas: dell'anima for fantastic pasta or maybe marys fish camp for seafood but be prepared to wait...no reservations.
not entirely sure about dessert or coffee after the show...id walk to blue ribbon bakery for chocolate chip bread pudding probably.
