Hercules Market Hall impressions?

muimi07 May 15, 2010 10:53 PM

Has anyone been to the Hercules Market Hall that opened up earlier this month? I passed by it earlier this week but during the week, it looks pretty dead. I've been debating a weekend trip back to Hercules to check it out myself but really would like some opinions from other folks that have been there.

Any updates? I'm going to be in Hercules around lunchtime on a weekday. If it was dead in June, will it be even more so in November?

ETA: Ooops, I see on Yelp that it's closed. Too bad. I'll have to find lunch elsewhere!

I checked it out almost a year ago and it was pretty sparse. I think I had an OK taco and the bbq looked like it might be good. Possibly a better option is to go to the nearby mall anchored by a Safeway? where there is a little Filipino takeout place.

The little Filipino place is now another Filipino place. It is next to Lucky. Haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

Could be Lucky. There is a McDonald's at the entrance to the mall I'm thinking of.

There is no Safeway in Hercules, only in Rodeo or Pinole.

Ok, you made me look. and update the restaurant database that was nagging at me in the back of my mind. It is Marylou's Homemade Delights that is closed.

The new place is Cabalen Filipino Cuisine which was formerly located in Rodeo.

That's good to know as when I was driving thru Rodeo I noticed the old location had been replaced by a sushi joint.

Anyway, I liked Calaban in the old location and it seems to get a lot of positive posts on Yelp.

Oddly enough, according to Yelp Ogon Sushi in Rodeo is the old MaryLou's owner wio is Filipino. Go figure.

I work nearby and was intrigued. Went in on a weekday. It was a bit cold and windy. Only one food vendor, the taco truck, was there. The prices were good. Husband's tacos looked good but my nacho's had the canned cheese. Otherwise it was good. Site seems to have a lot of promise but it was really dead. Vendors were practically following us. Concept is good, I hope it survives.

Sorry - I don't know this place but do have a question - did you ever get a good recipe for the asian style whitebread you were looking for? I too am trying to make this - I travel to Asia frequently and do love this bread for toast! Help!!!

Yes, I have been by. There is less traffic during the week, but the weekends are pretty busy and fun, especially with the Farmer's Market every Saturday afternoon. The owner just installed a big screen TV and is showing World Cup Soccer at the venue. My understanding is the City of Hercules is going to have all of their City events (4th of July included) from now on. Additionally, the owner is planning a long list of new events as well to bring the traffic count.
