I HATE the new facebook social plugin on Chow.com. Is there a way to opt out?

Every time I post a link from chow.com anywhere on facebook, it shows up on the chow.com homepage in the "facebook social plugin" box. This is extremely annoying. I never gave my consent to having my facebook profile linked up with chow.com. How can I opt out, as washingtonpost.com, yelp.com, and other sites permit their users to do?

Please address this!

Basically, you need to dig into your Facebook privacy settings and uncheck a box at the bottom of one page that allows Facebook to link your info with external websites or partners or whatever. You'll need to Google, maybe, for more details. NPR.org (National Public radio) is one source for a how to.

I, too, find this Facebook move annoying and am considering deleting Facebook entirely because they change our default privacy settings every few months and ask people like us to "opt out" via complicated multi-page privacy settings.

In the post on the April 21 release at the top of this board, CHOW HQ said that the Facebook widget they're using is not part of that instant preferences program you're referring to that links to a few (at this time) specific websites, such as Yelp.

ChristinaMason, I can understand why you're annoyed by the FB thing, but if it's any consolation at all, in that thread on the release, CHOW HQ did say they've adjusted it so that only your Facebook friends can see the indication of your activity on the Chow homepage, not the community at large.

Thanks. You're right, the widget is independent of that facebook privacy check-box setting. I am hoping chow.com is going to create an opt-out option for the widget, as CNN.com, washingtonpost.com, slate.com, and a host of other websites have done.
