Slanted Door Update?

Chicago hound visitng on business next week, I've loved Slanted Door in the past as best modern/upscale vietnamese I've found in the U.S. However, I haven't dined there for a while. Can some SFO 'hound-homeys give me a fair but discriminating update. Still worth our one dinner on this trip, or has a newcomer arrived replicating SD's mix (in my memory) of Asian ingredients, adept cooking, fresh crisp flavors and a bit of style. Thanks much in advance.

  1. You're going to get widely varying opinions on Slanted Door. Some love it, others hate it. It's the nature of the beast. I'd just go if you liked it before. It hasn't dropped off from any reports however if you didn't/don't like it the first place, it doesn't matter...you won't like it now. If you're worried about disappointment, just go for lunch, giving yourself another meal to get over it. I think it'll be fine however.

    1. re: ML8000

To reiterate more succinctly: there haven't been any reports of the food changing.

    2. Depending on how long "a while" is, the prices have either increased somewhat, or increased dramatically

      1. You might consider one of the chef's other places, Out the Door or Heaven's Dog.

        1. FWIW, my two colleagues and I ate at SD on 5/18 and very much enjoyed everything we ate, esp. the brick chicken and the tapioca.
