Fall 2010 Cookbooks
I was snooping around on Amazon and saw some interesting cookbooks that are coming out in the fall:
"Oaxaca al Gusto: An Infinite Gastronomy" by Diana Kennedy
"Thai Street Food" by David Thompson
"My Sweet Mexico: Recipes for Authentic Pastries, Breads, Candies, Beverages, and Frozen Treats" by Fany Gerson
"Around My French Table" by Dorie Greenspan
"Tartine Bread" by Chad Robertson
Also, a number from New York establishments:
"Clinton St. Baking Company Cookbook"
"Fat Witch Brownies"
I don't know why, but despite the fact of being an addicted cookbook buyer, none of these titles are jumping off the page at me. I have some current books that I would like to add to my collection when I get home -- notably the new David Lebovitz -- but this list isn't exciting me right now. Maybe the Thai Street Food, but I hate cooking from those huge picture book cookbooks.
I'll be very curious to see the Thompson book. Amazon has it at a very good pre-pub price, but even at that it's nearly $40. I recall when the book was first published in Australia last fall there was a lot of comment on it over on another board by people who had managed to get their hands on a copy. It's evidently an oversized, heavy, glossy book a la Alford and Duguid. Not sure I need another of those. But the recipes were reputed to be very accessible. Sure hope there are enough recipes online to give it a test drive.
Not a book I think I'd need, but a friend of mine is working on the Sarabeth book and she says it's just gorgeous.
