Dinner tomorrow-south end or back bay

  • 8

I am coming to Boston for one night tomorrow from NYC. Woudl love a recommendation. Last time two times in Boston I went to Aquataine (loved food and amosphere), Mistral and Sorellina (loved food but NOT prices), and Union (loved all). Suggestions and quickly!

  1. Eastern Standard on Commonwealth Ave in Kenmore Sq. or Scampo in the Liberty Hotel.

thanks. ever been to toro or coppa?

Toro and Coppa are both great, but don't take reservations and are so popular that a wait is inevitable, and can run in excess of an hour many weeknights. Toro at least has a bar you can squeeze into to get a drink while you cool your heels; Coppa is so small that you generally have to wait elsewhere -- the Franklin Cafe across the street is a popular place to do this (and a fine dinner option in its own right).

    2. if you liked aquitaine you might like La Voile or Vlora, both in back bay, both bistro in style, and not nearly as pricey as mistral or sorellina. you might also check out whether sel de la terre still has a fixed price menu.

Great suggestions. We may go early, put our name down at coppa and grab drinks at Franklin Cafe. We are used to waiting..even WITH a rez.

I went to Coppa last friday and had no wait for two at seven to sit indoors. I think if you can pick a nicer weather night, then you can likely sit inside with less of a wait since most people want to sit outside.

These are all great recommendations, thanks! On the whole, is South End a better/cooler restaurant destination than Back Bay? I've heard some people say Back Bay is over priced 'style over substance'. We're comfortable traveling to different parts of the city so we're cool with going to another neighborhood if we'll have a better experience. In terms of price, we're looking for entrees $20 or less.

I think you're going to be stretching that budget at Coppa, not sure about Toro.

You could look into having drinks elsewhere and eating at Franklin Cafe, which is very good.
