Best Indian Buffets in SF? [Split from "Sultan closed" thread]

vulber May 11, 2010 10:48 PM

While I never made it to Sultan, I always got the impression that it had the best non-fancy (excluding Amber) Indian buffet in the city; while several threads mention the plethora of quality Indian buffets outside of the city, with Sultan gone, who has the best non-fancy buffet in San Francisco?

Note the title of the post. There are a plethora of great ones outside of the city, as discussed on other threads, which is why I specified in the city.

Try Udupi Palace - its menu is south indian and therefore different from what many people are used to. the food is very good. it is all vegetarian but i bet you would not miss having meat.

Udupi does not offer a buffet at their SF location (they do at their others)

Oh that's good to know. I've been there a number of times but not for buffet, but the Web site says they have lunch buffet -- it's not clear that it is only for the other locations.

I liked the buffet at the newish Curry Village on 9th/Judah. Went a few weekends ago and there was a nice selection of dishes, w/good spicing.

Is the buffet offered at all of their locations?

Perhaps this remark may be facetious, but is there an Indian restaurant in the entire world without a lunch buffet? With tandoori chicken wings?

I certainly wish Lahore Karahi had one, but considering that all the cooking is done by one person, it's not surprising that they don't

Most of the ones that I frequent do NOT have a lunch buffet.

I can only speak to the good-ness of the 1 I've been to. I believe that thread mentions others.
