Hoping to give my wife a gem for our anniversary, could use some help!

I have a 2 year anniversary coming up this Saturday, and I'm looking for a diamond in the rough somewhere in Montgomery, Chester, or Bucks County (traveling from West Chester isn't a problem, but I'd prefer to stay out of Philly). As I'm sure most people understand, the budget is a little tight these days, so I'm not looking to heavily break the bank (I'd be thrilled to find a place with $10 entrees). Instead, I'm looking for an intimate, hole-in-the-wall type diner/cafe that still has a great menu and a romantic atmosphere. Any suggestions?

  1. Heck, I'd even be open to places in Lancaster and Berks County too!

    1. It's not quite $10 entree, more like $20+, but Trax cafe in Ambler is what I always think of for special occasion dinners. It's in an old train station and is very cute and quaint. The weather should be nice and you can even eat on the porch. And it's BYOB so you can bring your own wine to save $ if you're a drinker.

There is also KC's alley across the street, which is cheaper and is a bar. They have great food.

I'm trying to think of a place that is a-hole-in-the-wall cheap, but also romantic. That's a hard one!

      1. The 'burbs are expensive, if you really want a high quality place with ~$10 entrees and nice atmosphere you should hit up one of the pre-dinner specials in the city. I can't think of one off hand but they should be around $25 for three courses. Or Chinatown, but I don't know how romantic that is.

Why? I agree with AgentRed, you will have more options on a lower budget in the city than in the burbs. The Latest Dish springs to my mind, they have some great items around $10-$15, the atmosphere is nice, and great beers on draft. Mr. Martino's Trattoria is another great choice.

          1. I know I can find cheap restaurants in the city, I was just wondering if anyone had a beat on something out of the city, because that's where I am (West Chester).

            1. I would suggest Mina Cucina in Springhouse, Montgomery County. It's on N. Bethlehem Pike. BYOB, so that will save you money. My favorite dish there is the pappardelle bolognese (homemade pasta) for $12.

I like Bamboo on rt 30 in frazer in the Lincoln shopping center across from carabas. 10 dollar entres are a little tight, but you could have some really great apps, summer rolls, vietnamiese hot and sour soup, pho, bin bow.....it would make a fine evening, good service etc......

And not too far up the road from there is Bhuna Faun -- French Vietnamese. I haven't been there in awhile, but I think it's time to plan a visit.

              2. Had dinner there on Saturday night with 2 other couples. All six of us were disappointed in our dinners. None of us had been there before. From the specials (which varied depending on what server came to take your order) to the coffee. Watched two pots of coffee that were on the burners from the time we got there be dumped into a cup for one of us. Needless to say it was stale. The worst part was 5 of us got our dinners and one poor person was way behnd getting his meal. To top it off, it was the sam entree another person in our group ordered. we did have a reservation and the table was ready when we arrived.
