  1. I was wondering that as well.....

    1. Do you suspect that it's much different than the one in Bensalem?

A "texas roadhouse" without brisket or beef ribs? margaritas with "sweet and sour mix". "fall-off-the-bone ribs". *sigh*

I've been...It's a chain. They all taste the same. However, it's not 'that' bad (say, like Olive Garden or something). And actually, in that area, I would say the since the service and food has been declining at Big Ed's there aren't much options.

I was there last week, then two days later went to Grub Hut in Manville.....I'd take the ride to Manville. I had the exact same dish i ordered at Roadhouse (pulled pork, and ribs with beans) and it was MUCH better. (although if you're a fan of 'fall off the bone' and buy into all that...)

My wife had a Mexican dish from the other side of the menu and loved it.

Tommy - I agree about the no brisket statement and 'texas roadhouse'...

      2. Is this where Old Country Buffet used to be? If so, one chain replacing another.

Yep. Same location. The one thing that did well in that location was the movie theater. ;o)

          1. re: Jerzeegirl

In the Bensalem location I had the large Bone In Rib eye "Medium rare" ..cooked to perfection and one of the best steaks Ive had in a long time excellent char, with a sweet potato & house salad. Hot glazed sweet buns with Cinnamon butter is standard .....and every 30 minutes the staff line dances to the Cotton Eyed Joe....
I like that you can pick your steak out of a showcase before you enter also...not bad for a chain place at all..

            1. re: Tapas52

You had me until the .....and every 30 minutes the staff line dances to the Cotton Eyed Joe....part.

              1. re: Duppie

lol, it's a cowboy like atmosphere, family fun type of place....and if its your birthday they wheel in a Big wooden Hi Chair horse and saddle and put you on it while the whole restaurant sings Happy Birthday to y'all haha!
Other then that I enjoy it occasionally for a change of pace.

                1. re: Tapas52

I remember eating at Minado while courting my wife and witnessing the wait staff grumbling among themselves and then crowding a table where the birthday girl sat and started singing what I later learned was a Japanese birthday song, under a tattered paper umbrella.
So if I do visit TR, it damn sure won't be on my birthday and I fully intend to get aquainted with the bar to get past the whole Cotton Eyed Joe thing.
The menu ,however sounds interesting. Thanks.

Went there tonight, arrived at about 8:45. Estimated 85-95 minute wait for a table for two. Nope, we'll wait until the newness wears off. Ended up at Outback down the road, where the estimated wait of 30 minutes was more like 10. I had a delicious seared ahi tuna appetizer and full rack of ribs, which were actually quite good.. very smokey flavor.

                    1. re: MarlboroMan

very smoky flavor, compliments of liquid smoke I'd think?

Well, it was a Saturday night as well.

I ate at a TR in Massachusetts a few months ago. It was okay (I can't remember what I ordered), but the service there was very slow, and the line dancing not my idea of a dinner show. :-) We'll probably try the one in Old Bridge, but I wish they had the Early Bird specials some locations do. (For that matter, I wish they were open for lunch during the week.)

you don't have to tell them it's your birthday. unless people with you like to embarrass you and themselves, they'd never know. so go on your birthday!

                        1. re: tommy

Since you put it that way... Oh ok then. But can I at least drink something?

We've gone into a different location of TX Roadhouse and walked back out because the wait was too long with a little one. Thank you for reassuring me that I will NEVER walk back in again thanks to the singing shenanigans.

                          1. re: irishnyc

I just got back from finishing off my 16 oz fillet Mignon. I'm probably not as refined as some of you guys, but I was pretty sure that I had lost my childhood like for chain restaurants. This is one chain restaurant that I will be returning to.

I didn't have high hopes upon entering thanks to this discussion and the outback like decor. But it was a night out with the GF and I'm glad I gave it a try.

My only real complaint was that the server was too prompt.. (is that even a complaint?).. we only had a few seconds to peruse the drink menu, but aside from that, it was an excellent experience. The hot bread and cinnamon butter was very nice, we had a baby blossom (blooming onion).. which was cooked nicely. A bit on the salty side for me, but it's munching food, so I didn't mind too much.

The GF got the chicken and pulled pork combo and loved it. She had a side of mash (which appeared to be fresh made), the gravy went nicely in texture and taste. We both had a side of chili. This was really nice, a bit on the spicy side (for my tastes), but very rich and tasty, it might have actually been better that its a bit on the spicy side, because i ate it like a side, not as a meal. I'm pretty sure they put bits of steak in it.

I ordered the monster fillet (16 oz) $35 and it was cooked to perfection and very juicy, tender, like perfection in my mouth. It's the best steak I've had in a long time. There was a bit of confusion as to how to order the large steaks that are not on the menu, but the waitress got the correct information promptly. I also got sauteed onions on my steak which where delicious, and perfectly softened. They where a bit much with the giant steak to eat all of them, so I added them to my fork as I wanted a bit of extra flavor.

I got the texas ultimate tea or something like that to drink, it was basically a long island iced tea, tasted good, a bit on the light side, but I've been known to like my drinks heavy on the liquior. I was suprised that it was only $5.25 for the tea.

My GF got a margarita, 18 ounces, orange and pineapple, I had a taste and its not my style, but it didn't taste bad if you like those flavors together. She'd probably be better off with the standard margarita. Was very surprised and delighted to learn that that margarita was only $6.

We where full, and skipped dessert, but there are only like 3 items on the menu for dessert. Can't comment on that.

We did have a chance to see the line dancing, and its really not as bad as you guys think. It's a pretty loud restaurant as it is, so it's not like they are messing with the mood or anything. And they don't make the customers get up and dance. So I think you guys are just scared of giving it a try.

All in All, it's a great restaurant, and I will be returning, I don't care if it is a chain.

Glad you had a great time.....I think you can also call ahead to make reservations too...that's what we did and went right in.

                              enjoy

                              1. re: Tapas52

I had read about the long wait times, but we figured it was a Tuesday night, so we showed up and it was only two people, so we where able to walk right in. The place was pretty busy (IMO) for a Tuesday, though.

                              2. re: coldsolderjoint

Thanks for the great report. It's only about a 10 minute drive from my house, so maybe we'll give it a try one night.

                  2. we visited a few weeks ago, and we may return. we registered our email online with them and they sent us a coupon for a free app. we chose the rattlesnake bites, which were too salty. the fresh bread and cinnamon butter were very good. i enjoyed the salad and homemade dressing that came with my meal, although it was large enough to be an entree. dh had the ribs, which he said were too fatty for his liking. i had the catfish, which was good. the portion was so large, i had three more meals from it at home. overall, TR has decent food, large portions, and reasonable prices. although it is by no means a food "destination", i can see the appeal of TR to the value-conscious consumer- think IHOP clientel. the service was attentive, but we felt like we were being upsold on everything. in addition to super-size portions, the server tried to push drinks, apps, sides, and extra toppings for our sides on us. if you go to TR, call ahead to avoid the long wait and don't go at all if you are on a diet!

Spot on review. Went for lunch recently. As mentioned, bread and cinammon butter are delicious. Chili was good. Pulled pork was very dry. Thought the ribs were ok. A salad was good, but don't remember which one we ordered. Fun atmosphere. I supsect it gets very loud when busy.

                    2. I hope its as good as the one In Lancaster PA, That I have been to many times. The food ***** Servise***** Noisey ! its a good time place The whole place sings for you birthday. Peanuts on the tables not on the floors. I have never had a bad Meal or wait staff, But this Was in Lancaster PA. I have not been to the Oldbridge one yet. But will next week. Bill Marlboro Nj
