Gardiner, NY?

I'm going to the Tuthilltown Spirits distillery in Gardiner, NY (about 15 miles away from Poughkeepsie, 15 miles from New Paltz) with some friends in a few weeks. Are there any decent, mid-priced restaurants nearby that a bunch of drunk guys with discerning pallets should check out? Could be range from good BBQ to just about anything.

Thanks!

Mountain Brauhaus has a lot of specials that are not on the on-line menu that make use of local and seasonal items, German and not. Excellent. Also, for breakfast and lunch, check out Cafe Mio, in Gardiner where the Red Rooster used to be.

We had a wonderful meal at Oscar in Kerhonkson, 5945 Route 44/55. Maybe 10 miles from Gardiner.
Don't be put off by the exterior, we almost didn't go in, but having done my homework online, I said let's try an appetizer. Yum!!

What kind of food is Oscar's serving these days? That place has been through so many changes over the past 10 years....

Should you like German, Mountain Brauhaus is right up the hill. Consistently very good. Cheery service, nice view and... sauerbraten. Mexicali Blue in New Paltz has great fish tacos

you're further from POK than new paltz, so stick to that area.

gardiner - i haven't been to mountain brauhaus, might be interest to you?

            ellenville - aroma thyme
new paltz - bunch o' places, check mark p's posts in the tristate archives for an idea of the places in np. 36 main and beso are ones in my mind for some reason. village tearoom as well?

also - if you're in gardiner, go here for your bakery needs:

Keep in mind that Uncle Brutha's BBQ place just opened up on 44/55 near Route 32. Pretty good BBQ from a building that's not condemned. Open Friday through Monday..

Skip Aroma Thyme - overpriced although the food is tasty. Mt Brauhaus is great if you want a big german dinner. And their breads (from Cohens Bakery in Ellenville) are terrific. Light meals - Mt. Bistro across the street from Brauhaus or as Bob Gaj says above the Village Market right down the road in Gardiner. The new owners (maybe 6 weeks ago?) are great and inventive - their sandwiches & light stuff are imaginative. I was drooling the other day when Karen described their new chicken waldorf salad sandiwich with gruyere.... And of course in New Paltz there are a bunch of decent places on the main drag. And lots & lots of places for drinking with your buddies.
