Starting a vegetable/herb garden and need a place to buy all the plants. Too late to work with seeds so any idea where to get high grade veggie and herb plants in Manhattan? I'd also be willing to go into queens or Brooklyn if there are good ones there.

I definitely second the USGM, in general, a lot of the vendors have plants this time of year and it's worth checking out everything before you start buying. Be sure to look at Silver Heights Nursery if you're interested in unusual heirloom stuff.

Any plants in particular worth checking out? I thought I had seen Alpine strawberries a few weeks back, but I haven't been able to find heirloom anything in my subsequent trips to the market.

For the record, I guess I should have said "heirloom and/or unusual." :) As for what they've got now, no, not specifically, I haven't been down there much yet this year. Apart from their herbs (more unusual than "heirloom"), I've bought heirloom tomatoes and wild-type chiles from them. It's probably early for the hot weather plants like those, though.

They don't always have everything in it, but they have an online catalog and sometimes it pays to call them if you're looking for something specific or they can sell out before you notice they had it in the first place!
