Alice's Lake Hopatcong

  • 4

Was lucky enough to get David Drake in the house on a Sunday night, and got there early enough to enjoy the soft shell crab tempura style before they would inevitably run out...will make this a spot in the rotation for sure. Perched above the lake facing west for some sunset dining, with a top flight chef who is now cooking such a more basic, yet at the same time nuanced menu, I imagine this place will be packed all summer. Get there now before the crowds do.

  1. Getting his highness there is the key to a successful visit. We went there when he was not in, and, aside from the dessert course, it was not impressive in the least. It took an hour to get any food on the table. We were never brought the famous muffins or whatever comes in the bread basket. The pork shank was very disappointing (imagine a whole shank served atop a scant 1/4 cup of couscous). The meat loaf was tasty

agree...our food was lackluster and off-balance (though DD was present(in the dining room, however)). Our desserts (white chocolate bread pudding & rustic apple tart) were spot on and ultimately the only non-disappointment of the meal. Great scenery & i liked the fizzy water, but not one i'd go back to.

    2. Went there about two weeks back and is a welcome restaurant to the area. I had the Atlanic Salmon with risotto, and my wife had the Scallops w/Succotash. Both were excellent dishes. We also had the calamari appetizer which was a special, and that was a crispy, tangy delight. Great view of the lake, and the service was excellent.

went there a month ago. service and food was horrible. in fact they ran out of most food items on a sunday at 8. we found out drake was not there but no excuse. This is no way to run a restaurant. sar outside and there were lots of spiders overhead.
