Anyone eaten at Laduree Bar on Champs Elysee

I'm a fan of Laduree macarons (can't help myself) and wonder if anyone has eaten at Laduree bar on the Champs Elysee. Or at least had drinks, for that matter. We are seeking a dinner locale but a drinks locale would also be welcome!

We will be coming from the Montparnasse area and meeting up with a friend who lives in the La Defense area. Champs Elysee is painfully touristy but at least seems fairly central to both of us.

Thoughts on Laduree bar? Or other ideas? Only restriction is that one in the party is ovo/lacto veg. Does not need to be anywhere fancy - just a place with good drink/food and a good place to catch up.

Thank you!

Laduree is indeed a jewel but I like Fouquet's, it's fun and bustling, and there's another one with a vaguely nautical name and a blue and white awning on the same side I've been to a few times.

Just don't eat the food at Fouquet's. The hot chocolate is fine, and the people watching is superb, but the food leaves a lot to be desired....

Perhaps your rendezvous has already happened, but for future readers on this topic, I love Laduree on the Champs!! I find it a great place to meet dates for either just wine or for small entrees. The setting is totally sumptuous and baroque which baths my decadent old world spirit.
Not only do you have all those lovely pastries to drool over, but I like the energy that abounds. The caramel macarons au beurre sale are my favorite and the milles feuilles pastries are always fresh and croustillant.
Do not miss the restroom in all its rococo splendor which is worth the trip in itself. All in all Laduree is an elegant delight visually and gustative. Enjoy!

Sigh. Does anyone know when this place will re-open?

Their website does not indicate when they will reopen. It seems like it is taking quite a while to repair the damage. I hope they will preserve its gilded charm and opulence!

It shouldn't be tricky to restore the "gilded charm" as it was only built in 1997 - a totally manufactured confection.

Agree. It's a branch, a sort of reenactment of the rue Royal place. Laduréeland.

        YES!!!!!
I just got engaged in Paris over new years and spent a week there and ate at the Laduree bar 3 times bc the dinner combos are amazing prices and taste amazing as well.

The blinis are amazing and so is the starter salads and then for dessert they let you pick whatever you want! aaaaamaaazing!

Also, the 22euro cocktails with a macaroon on top are worth the experience. I had the praline, it was amazing and I will never forget it.

the bar has beautiful lighting, and pink roses in front of every two chairs, also little cocktail tables on the side.

i would not be disappointed if thats what heaven is like. GO!

i've been to the laduree bar on the Champs and made a review of it here:

sorry, i know that's a bit lazy just to push you off to my blog, but it really details more than I could here without simply repeating everything. If you have specific questions I didn't address there, just let me know!

Personally for around the Champs I prefer something like the bar le Secret. You'll pay about the same price for the drinks as you will at laduree, but it's a bit more intimate, there's a terrace if the weather is nice & they have a fun menu - comfort type food. (I'm not sure what the options are for vegie/ovo/lactos though). It's a little less touristy & a little more sophisticated. (although the laduree bar is definitely more of a unique experience!

          )

I also think Flute is kind of a fun choice in that area. It's a champagne bar but they have a small bar menu & do cocktails. You'll want to call ahead and reserve there even if it's just for the bar.

Those are both places I've been to specifically for drinks in that area, but that also serve food - so bear in mind that my advice is based on places i've visited initially for cocktails who also serve what looks like good food. (and also bear in mind that I don't spend a lot of time around the Champs)

          have fun!

I've never had a proper meal there, only stuff at breakfast time; for cocktails and catching up shouldn't you think of places like Drouant that has a fine cocktail-man (not my strength) and fine food too afterwards. Quiet for catching up too. And midway for you two.
