Need help - what are your favorite Tribeca or nearby restaurants?

mboxermd May 9, 2010 05:20 AM

We just had a great meal at Tamarind Tribeca and we really don't know this area of the city so looking for some other restaurants in the neighborhood with great food and great ambiance. Parking a car on the street was a pleasure!

Locanda Verde is a favorite of mine and the newly opened Terroir Tribeca (wine bar but the food is good if you want to nibble - the pork blade steak and lamb are terrific plus lots of wine-friendly snacks), also Corton for fine dining, Upstairs (Bouley) - these should get you started. Cercle Rouge is good for French bistro food but i'm sure you have a solid bistro in your 'hood as well. how was Tamarind?

Tamarind was great - the restaurant is beautiful - the service was excellent - attentive but not overbearing and the food was excellent and we are big Indian food lovers!

I really liked Forge and Gigino's last summer when I stayed at the Smyth. I did not know the area either and was pleasantly surprised! I also ended up at Odeon for brunch and loved it also.

Try City Hall restaurant, on Duane Street, between Church and West Broadway. They have an impressive dining room, with clustered round booths and high ceilings. Very comfortable, and very welcoming. They serve up some excellent seafood and steaks, and have a large wine list. Not inexpensive, but not wildly expensive either. Also a plus (at least to me), they've been there since before 9/11 and struggled through that terrible time, and still survived.

I'd be interested in hearing your opinion if you do go.

Marc Forgione is great, especially during this time of the year.

i go to matsugen quite often for sushi and cooked japanese food. its a beautiful space and the service is glad to have you there. food is excellent and reasonably priced considering the quality.

walkers for bar and grill-type food...a great casual place for a dinner and a scotch.
