Disappointment

I had high hopes for a nice lunch. I'd walked along the coast, it was a beautiful sunny day on Friday. I'd been to a perfect Perla Batalla concert the night before.

The dungenous crab and clam chowder was very delish..as was the house chardonnay! The female server was cordial and attentive..and was pushing those specials. I wanted the tilapia grilled sandwich but went with the special of Trio of Fish...halibut, salmon, and sea bass. The salmon was way over cooked as was the seabass..it was like rubber. For some reason the small piece of halibut was saved and was cooked exactly right.

The server came by and said, "isn't the fish divine..it's all fresh". I told her how two were overcooked and I couldn't eat them. She offered to take them back...but I had waited 30 minutes for them and needed to get on the road ...a 3 hour drive ahead of me. She asked if I wanted a glass of wine on the house..."no, I am driving." She then brought back a business card of the owner's that said, "free appetizer when you return". Um.....no. I think they should have at least comped the one glass of wine that I did sip on for 30 minutes. Nope.

Also, I was waiting for the check when the "busboy" came and cleared off every single thing on my table!! Could ya wait until I leave?

I give it two stars for that chowder, the server, and that view! The house chardonnay was good. Someone needs to teach the lunch chef how to cook fish! Hello! Right by the ocean! There were only 4 people in the place when I walked in at 11:45 for lunch.

A bunch of us met and ate at Passionfish the night before....I'll go there again!!

A Pacific Grove local on another site has suggested Lattitudes as a place to enjoy a drink and a beautiful view and go elsewhere for lunch/dinner.

We did not like Latitudes when it was The Tinnery, either. If you want a very good meal in Pacific Grove, next time go to The Red House Cafe, wonderful food in a homey, cozy ambiance. We were in Monterey this weekend and enjoyed great meals at The Sardine Factory in the Conservatory Room, The Duck Club @ the Monterey Plaza Hotel where we stayed and Cantinetta Luca in Carmel. :)

There is a link to the rest. on the top of the post which gives details, directions, etc. It is at Lovers Point. One never knows if they are in Monterey or Pacific Grove..close together!

Helps the search feature if you actually identify the restaurant and/or location you are recommending. Or in this case, not recommending. Thank you.

Pacific Grove. It sounds like the space that was the Old Bath House. Yeh, great view.

Actually the Old Bath House is being converted into several businesses one of which will be a second Passionfish, last report I heard at least. I believe Latitudes took over what was The Tinnery next to Borg's motel.

Thanks for the info. I can't imagine that Latitudes can be much worse than The Tinnery.

Wow, a version of Passionfish with a view. Be sure to post when you learn more.

Here's the most recent mention I've seen, third paragraph just says "soon to be remodeled...."

I don't think we've tried Latitudes, recall looking at the menu once and not being impressed. If we did it was just for apps a drink, and the view, just like the Tinnery. We did hit the T for breakfast occasionally which was hard for them to screw up, not impossible mind you.
