Good delivery options in Greenwich Village?
We have hit a wall and are disappointed with just about all of the food delivery options in our area (around Washington Square).
We are looking for all the basics -
Pizza (we are getting sick of Arturos)
Italian
Chinese
Thai
Mexican
Japanese
Indian
Any help would be much appreciated!!
A couple of years back, I had a friend who lived on Bleecker. On Oscar night, we did not want to go out and wanted to have a nice meal so we called Cafe espanol, on Bleecker street also. The food was absolutely delicious and the portions gigantic. We ordered for 2 and we could have been 3 or 4 easily. We had paella, gaspacho and they were excellent.

I'm glad you enjoyed your meal there, but I don't think Cafe EspaƱol is a Chow-worthy restaurant. It presents itself as a Spanish place, but they serve corn tortilla chips and (jarred) salsa when customers sit down. Also, I ordered a glass of cava, and they put a maraschino cherry in it. I'm from Spain; this is not a good Spanish restaurant, and I don't think they know much about quality food service in general (or care -- it caters to NYU students who want to get drunk on sangria). I don't know if Las Ramblas delivers, but it's an unpretentious tapas bar with tasty food in the same neighborhood.

When I lived on Christopher the rooms and I rotated frequently through the following:
Westville
Grand Sichuan on 7th ave (only decent Chinese I knew of in those parts), Noodle Bar delivered okay "pan-asian" noodle soups.
I think Arturo's is your best bet for pizza, but Joe's delivers if you're a bigger fan of it than I am.
Rhong Thai for Thai (heard Galanga is good too)
Mexican, forget about it.
For Indian I thougth Ghandi Cafe was "just fine."
Also, Taim delivers awesome falafel, of course. I would sometimes get Dirty Bird deliverd from up on 14th for some chickeny comfort food. It's on seamless.

Chinese - For Americanized fare, Friend House or Yummy House is edible. Not sure if places in Chinatown deliver to Greenwich Village. What kind of Chinese are you looking for in particular?
Thai - Spice or Rhong Tiam, which has since moved to a new location on 2nd Ave/5th St (the space formerly home to Kurve, the restaurant that's all pink)
Mexican - Hopefully you live within the delivery zone for La Esquina. If not, Cosmic Cantina might work as well. (Depending on what type of Mexican you like, I'd put Cosmic Cantina way below La Esquina) Mexicana Mama could be another option.
Japanese - Kanoyama. It's amazing because it's a real Japanese restaurant, not a random delivery hole.
Italian - Il Corallo Trattoria (they have pizza too)
For Pan-Asian Noodles - Noodle Bar or Republic
For Vietnamese - Saigon Grill
Not an expert on Indian cuisine...

chinese? i get grand sichuan from 7th ave south or st.marks...food is fantastic and i dont even like chinese.
thai...i get delivery from rhong in the kurve space...i miss them on laguardia...the kurve space sucks but the food is still good.

Thai.
Yeah, I miss Rhong Tiam. They had the only good Thai for miles around. Galanga on W. 4th St. is decent, though mostly I like their appetizers more than entrees. There's a newer location in Chelsea that's complete crap. Avoid that one.
Isle Thai is better than much of the competition, but I wouldn't call it good, exactly.
Mexican
Mercadito Grove is pretty good, even if portions are small for the price. Palapa Rockola is ok for some things. You can also order tamales at the El Idolo truck (across from La Palapa Rockola on 7th most nights), to take home.
Indian.
Sirtaj is good for cheap, decent north Indian. They're actually located pretty far north of you, but they deliver to your area. (The delivery guys are really nice.) Curry Kitchen also isn't awful for north Indian based on the one time we've tried it.
I think Kati Roll delivers if you just want a simple sandwich.
For s. Indian, you're pretty much screwed. :)
Chinese.
I care about this cuisine a lot and frankly I find most options in Manhattan appalling. If we have to order Chinese in, we do Empire Szechuan and order things like hacked chicken with multi flavors and cold bean curd. A lot of the menu is just standard nasty brown sauce Chinese American food, though.
Pizza.
I think Otto delivers and they aren't bad. Bleeker Street Pizza is ok for more traditional NYC style pizzas. My husband likes Two Boots for the toppings, but it's not really my thing.
Japanese.
I agree that Kanoyama is the best of the bunch for sushi.
Other options you didn't ask for, but maybe you'd like:
Laut for Malaysian. They actually have some pretty authentic, well made food on the menu, though not all of it's good. Laksas are authentic. Oh, and that reminds me: they have some Thai on the menu. I haven't tried much of it, but on one occasion, the drunken noodles were decent, even though it didn't have enough vegetables.
Baoguette has good banh mi, though the fillings are not like any I've ever had in Vietnam. The pho is terrible, though, so don't order that.
I don't really like Saigon Grill for Vietnamese, but I don't have a better suggestion in the neighborhood.
Encantada is right that Cafe Espanol is pretty bad.

You have some interesting recs here. I've lived in the village for most of my life (though now I am technically in SoHo). I'll give you my ideas, though I will preface them by saying that this is a notoriously bad neighborhood for delivery (at least the West Village, east village, for all my hating of it, is actually very good).
Pizza-
Keste is excellent, as has been said for that Neapolitan style that is all the rage. However I am a staunch believer in Joe's for their Fresh Mozz slices and Bleecker Street for everything else (including their now near-extinct Chicken+Ricotta slice). Bleecker Street really does have the right crust consistency and is really good in the non-gourmet sense. Sometimes, youjust don't want an ultra-thin crust.
Italian-
Pepe Verde/Rosso depending on where you live. Simply the highest quality-per-price (i.e: value) for the cost. They have a 26 (at least that's what they display in their window) from Zagat's, but the proof is really in the pudding, 10 dollar pastas, specials every night. Simple and unpretentious, owned by a soccer-loving dude from Italy who laughs at me when I try my paltry Italian on him. Not the fastest delivery, but de-lish.
Chinese-
Used to be a blight on the neighborhood. There was nothing but cheap-o joints like King Wok and Christopher Golden Woks for a while. Both of the decent places (Sung Chun Mei and Baby Buddha) went out of business and one would be forced to order from the decidedly mediocre Suzie's. Now with Grand Sichuan 7th Ave, there's "acceptable" chinese food. Not as good (strangely) as the St. Mark's branch, nor a s good as some c-town joints, but acceptable.
Thai-
Rhong-Tiam is gone. Go to the supremely under-appreciated Pinto over on Christopher St. Their lunch special is 8 bucks for something that is lightyears better than anything else Thai in a comparable price range. Dinner is more expensive, but also very worth it.
Mexican-
Florencia 13 anyone? I really dig this place and my Texan friends say it's the most authentic they've been to (although it's actually LA-style). Other than that, Mexicana Mama (best guac in the hood), which despite it's diminished status, still beats mediocre stuff like Caliente Cab Co. (Go for anything with the word "mole" in it.)
Japanese-
Not my specialty (I'm a poultritarian). I hear Tomoe Sushi over on Thompson is very good though for mid-scale Sushi/Jap. They also opened up a crazy looking restaurant called Takashi on my parents' block, but I don't think they deliver.
Indian-
Haven't tried Curry Kitchen yet (think they are very new). It's rough, I gotta tell you, ever since Mitali West closed down. Surya is a good-ish place, if you're willing to drop about 15 an entree, over on Bleecker. Karahi is pretty awful. I honestly don't know. You're best bet is probably just to walk over to 6th St on a nice summer evening or take the 6 train up to Curry Express on 29th.
Let me know if any of this helps!
Good luck and good eating.

I don't think Keste delivers, unfortunately, unless they've changed their policies in the last month.
Tomoe used to be good about 15 years ago, but I don't think they have been for a long time.
Takashi doesn't deliver, but it's interesting and good. It is a Korean Japanese restaurant that serves beef liver sashimi and other organ meats raw or grilled. Really delicious if you like that kind of thing.
I know I didn't start this thread, but thanks for those other suggestions. There are some I haven't heard of and I've lived in the West Village for a long time. It is always good to discover something new.

I tried Curry Kitchen a few times recently; I really wanted to like it but it really wasn't good. For Indian, I've gone back to ordering from Surya. I haven't tried the Jackson Diner outpost that recently opened on University yet, but am hopeful that they'll be worthwhile.
I wanted to add that for pizza, Lombardi's has a wide delivery area, so depending on how far west you are, they may deliver to you.
And in regards to Souen, I understand it's not for everyone, but I enjoy it when I want a simple, healthy meal. I usually get the fish with pesto or the maze rice with salmon and some steamed greens.

not exactly what you asked for but I eat from Taim several times a week and can't get enough. Their Sabich platter (fried eggplant served over a plate of hummus with salad and some falafel balls is fantastic, the falafel balls in combination with a salad are great and they deliver quickly.
Actually, I alternate between Taim and the Hummus Place because the latter has Ful Medammas with Hummus (they call it Hummus Fava). It's a plate of hummus served with a hard boiled egg and a portion of stewed fava beans. Doesn't sound like much but it is the stuff of dreams.
