source for shelled English peas, SF?

Any sightings of shelled English peas at farmers' markets or grocers in San Francisco? Thanks.

Chue at the Ferry Plaza farmer's market on Saturdays usually has shelled English peas -when in season of course.

Bought some shelled peas from Chue today, $10/lb, which -- given that 1 lb of pods yields roughly 1/4 lb of peas -- seemed like a good deal to me. However, they were quite starchy and not very sweet, so I won't be getting those again; quality-adjusted, not worth it after all.

Good to know - I always buy Iacopi's peas and shell them myself, but I'm always tempted to buy Chue's. I'll keep doing what I'm doing and convince myself that shelling the peas is therapeutic.

Iacopi's peas are insanely expensive and I don't think they're as fresh as they should be for the premium price. At least, I know their artichokes aren't fresh, and if they're selling substandard artichokes I'm not going to shell out for their peas (pun not intended).

They are expensive, but they're the freshest I have access to now that I no longer live on a farm. I'm happy to pay the price.

I've had good and bad luck with their artichokes. Sometimes they are not as fresh as they should be, but it's certainly easier to spot a good fresh artichoke visually than it is with English peas.

I think shelled peas deteriorate very rapidly. Best to shell them yourself, especially since they're so expensive you don't want to compromise their quality.

Ya, I saw them @ Mission Bay farmer's market on Wednesday. Same vendor will be @ Irving St market on Sunday. A different stand had the ones with the shells, which are nice for making stock.

The Thursday farmers market at the Crocker Galleria has a couple of vendors that usually have shelled peas - at least they did yday. One's the Asian veggie table near the Sutter entrance and the other is back near the massage storefront on the Post entrance side. Can't comment on quality though.

Ooo, great to know -- wish I had asked yesterday morning!

That Crocker Galleria market is full of unexpectedly good surprises.
