Close to Courtyard by Marriott-Mission Valley

Good morning,
a DC hound visiting for the Rock and Roll Half Marathont he first full weekend of June. I am looking for a place for a simple pasta dinner on Saturday night. Also (and maybe more importantly), a nice (but unstuffy) place for dinner on Sunday night as a celebration of the race. We are staying at Courtyard by Marriott-Mission Valley (Hotel Circle) and will have one car (but want to use it very sparingly). Any places walkable? How about taxi ride and/or parking downtown?

  1. There is very little that is walking distance from your hotel. Adam's Steak and Eggs, is walking distance, and makes for a competent breakfast. Mission Valley as a whole is a chain oriented, culinary wasteland. The good thing about your location, however, is that several options are a short drive away. Use your car or take a taxi. For relatively close Italian (Saturday pasta dinner):

    Arrivederci (Hillcrest)
    Bencotto (Little Italy)
    Cucina Urbana (5th and Laurel)

Downtown is geared towards expense account conventioneers, but there are a few gems:
    Cowboy Star
    Cafe Chloe
Oceanair Seafood Room (high end chain).

Cucina Urbana would also make a fine choice for your Sunday celebration dinner as it has great food combined with a lively, festive atmosphere. I recently reviewed CU if you are interested.
