    1. If you are into exotic flavors, try "UBE" or Purple Yam but only by the container.

      1. Drove by tonight and their feature flavor is Black Raspberry.

        1. Taro, Green Tea, Lychee

          1. My favorites are taro in the store and ube only in a pre-packed 1/2 gal to go. GF prefers rocky road and my teens like the mint w/choc chips.

            1. The best way is to try them all. :-)

fresh peach when in season is really good...also we love chocolate dipped strawberry.
oh..rootbeer float is good too :)

The peach is one flavor I found disappointing. The ice cream is so very rich it tends to swamp flavors that depend on a light, flowery aroma. All of the berries are good, all the citrus, and the two exotics I'd never even heard of before, ubu and taro.

The best reason I can think of for losing about a hundred pounds is so I could bop down to Alhambra once a day and try another flavor!

You must try the ube shake (ice cream from Fosselman's) at Oinkster cause it's absolutely the best shake that I've had anywhere!

My main problem with that is the fact that I can no longer enjoy any milkshake, however good, in conjunction with a full meal, and anything I get at the Oinkster will be a full meal. I suppose I could drop in for a midafternoon snack sometime, but the meaty side of the menu always grabs my head...

sel, why not just get an ube shake at Fosselman's?

                        1. re: ipsedixit

Unfortunately, Fosselman's only sells ube ice cream in the pre-pack 1/2 gal. containers to go. It is not available behind the counter for scoops or shakes. I consider this an inexcusable outrage and have expressed this to the owner/manager that always seems to be on the premises but to no avail!
I have brought their ice cream home but I live far from Alhambra so it does require advance planning on my part, cooler + ice and a direct route back home.

                          1. re: sel

I wonder if you could buy a half gallon of ube, ask them to make a shake out of it on the spot and then take the rest of the ube home?

                            1. re: ipsedixit

Interesting question for which I have at this somewhat late hour, unfortunately no answer. How much to charge for the shake might raise some consternation amongst the staff as one would have already paid for the ice cream component.

I don't think that would be a major issue for Fosselman's. They'd probably just subtract the price of a scoop of ice cream, or something similar.

Plus, they are pretty accomodating with special requests. They've made me an "Its It" ice cream sandwich when I brought in my own chocolate chip cookies from Mrs. Fields.

                    2. re: rickym13

I usually get the chocolate dipped strawberry too and if my sweet tooth is particularly fierce when I'm there, some dulce de leche :)
