I miss burritos as thick as your forearm that are wrapped up in a thin tortilla and butchers paper. I'm not talking about sit down restaurants or McDonalds take on Meixcan food (I'm lookin at you, Chipotle!). Can anybody reccomend a good Mom & Pop Neighborhood burrito shop?

I moved up from San Diego a couple months ago and can't imagine it'd be that hard to find a decent burrito in this town. I live in North Hollywood and work in Burbank. Anywhere near there for a lunch break or dinner on the way home is prefered. Thanks for your suggestions!

LAS FUENTES!!! It's in Reseda, so it's neither in North Hollywood or on your way home from Burbank, but I will tell you that this is a place of pilgrimage for me. The burrito pollo con rajas is delicious, so is their bean and cheese burrito. Their burrito chili relleno is fabulous too. There was a time that I lived in West LA, and worked in Beverly Hills. I would leave my office at 8pm and drive over to Reseda to eat there. I thought about moving there to be closer to the restaurant and asking if they had some sort of meal plan.

I second. I grew up around the corner, but now live in Pasadena. Whenever I am in the valley it is one of the two places I stop at (that and Cupids Hot Dogs). I always get the Burrito de Bistek Encebollado (steak and grilled onions). FANTASTIC!! I ask for the meat cooked medium-rare and they usually oblige - smothered in their green avocado salsa, a real delight My friend ordered the carne asada burrito which is also really good. On Vanowen Blvd just east of Reseda.
Also, its sister restaurant, Melodies, is pretty much katty-cornered from Las Fuentes on Reseda just north of Vanowen, serves the same burrito (although their menu is smaller and salsa bar different). I find that when there is no room at LF I go to Melodies and usually always find a seat.
Also, there are several El Indios splattered around the valley that may have what you are looking for. One on Roscoe/Balboa another on Saticoy/Tampa.

When I'm in the Valley for business, I always have lunch at Taco Llama. Sometimes I make up business in the Valley so I can have one of their burritos for lunch.

They pack a mean burrito with your choice of meat (carne asada - my fave, carnitas, al pastor, lengua, etc.) rice, beans, cilantro and onions, and red or green salsa. I get mine dry "sin salsa" because I like the red, hot salsa but the cook just ladles on way too much when left to his own discretion. And I'm not sure if "piquito salsa" means "little salsa" or something else so I don't know what I'll get.

Varios locations throughout the Valley.

Sahuayo on Victory in the parking lot of the Vallarta Market -- Marvelous food. My favorite is the carnitas burrito.

Casitas, two locations that I know of. One is on Magnolia and Bakman and the other is at Magnolia and Victoria. Also marvelous food but different than Sahuayo. Fresh and bright tasting. My favorite is the asada.

Los Chavos at the corner of Victory and Buena Vista. Great chorizo and eggs burrito. I also like the asada burrito and soft tacos.

Taco Naco on San Fernando road in East Burbank I think. Great machaca burrito.

There are more. I love burritos and try just about every place at one time or another. Like Steve Doggie Dog and hot dogs I could be Dave Burrito Burro with burritos. Come visit my website Burrito Spot....just kidding.

I like many different places for different types of burritos or tacos but would go to Casitas if I had to choose just one place.

Strongly agree on Casitas Tacos, whose virtues not only transcends the SFV, but in this case is also the most convenient to you geographically.

The Burbank location is at the Northwest corner of Magnolia & Victory (not Victoria), and the North Hollywood outpost is also on Magnolia, 2 blocks west of Vineland (in the strip mall oppositie Sitton's).

After all the good posts, I cannot imagine someone not chiming in regarding Carrillo's on Sherman Way, in the 19700 block next to Smart & Final. Truly wonderful chow. Drive from Sherman Oaks all the time for it. Likewise, Tortas Mexico in Studio City and several other locations also very good.
