Dinner in Alexandria Memorial Day weekend

My sister is visiting that weekend with a friend, and I want to take them somewhere memorable but fun Saturday night before we do the monument cruise. They both like pretty much everything and are a lot of fun to dine out with. Restaurant Eve is out, because they're booked. Sushi is a possibility, but it seems like Momo would have a LONG line on a Saturday night. Those are the only two front-runners I've been able to put together from reading reviews and such - I don't eat out in Alexandria often, so I need help!

Somewhere convenient to the metro stop or the docks would be great, also, since we won't be driving out there.

Brabo is close to the metro stop. Further down King St. there is Majestic (same owners as Eve) and Vermillion. Remember there is a trolley, but it only runs every 30 minutes I believe.

I also suggest Majestic or Vermillion. I like the Chesapeake Rolls at Flying Fish. Sit at the sushi bar. I had a very good spring Risotto at O'Connells last week. If you go there, though, get an outside table or a table in the back room, otherwise is SOO loud.

How do we feel about Las Tapas?

Las Tapas is a chain so i would say no. Columbia FireHouse is a good place to go. Also, the docks and the metro are pretty far apart.. So if you want someplace close to the metro -- then try Brabo or Vermillion or Majestic. If you want to walk all the way to the docks (or cab) then I would do Columbia Firestation. And while a chain, the Charthouse is nice on the water -- if sit outside

Went to Columbia Firehouse. Loved it! The food was fantastic and it couldn't be more convenient to the docks. We had the oysters and the tuna tacos to start - the oysters were great - nice selection, but the tuna tacos were a little meh, but good. I like them better at Zengo. Two of us ordered the prime rib, which was maybe the best prime rib I've had, I had the salmon, and my sister ordered the scallops. You can't go wrong with the seafood here. Best of all, the food was top-notch, but the atmosphere was not at all stuffy - perfect atmosphere for the occasion.
