So what's new at the Delaware beaches this year??

Calling all Lewes and Rehoboth hounds! What new places have opened? What old places have closed? Hungry vacationers will need to know!

  1. I was thinking about you the other day when I drove by Oby Lee's. It is being auctioned soon. I am sorry to always have bad news, Bob W!

That is terrible news! They have the best coffee. Do you know what happened? Oby Lee may be a terrible businessman, but he knows how to roast beans!

I liked the Oby Lee coffee too but I have a feeling it all came out of The Bake Shop in Lewes. All I know is the place was being offered for sale in the Cape Gazette awhile ago, then it closed, then a to-be-auctioned sign went up out front. It is a shame.

The Rehoboth boardwalk has been rebuilt and looks good. The Nic-o-Boli place has a new location on the Avenue. It is open-air and is very nice. Lingo's Market was recently auctioned and is closed, sadly.

There is a very new restaurant called Betty's in the Midway Shopping Center. We really want to try it soon. Your family might like it. You can read more about it here:

In Lewes, The Blue Plate is now The Filling Station, but I think you knew about that.

        The Blue Plate
329 Savannah Rd, Lewes, DE 19958

Betty's looks great. We are big fans of Fish On! Betty's will definitely be on our list.

Sad news about Lingo's too; that place was really a landmark.

I'm hopeful that Oby Lee will land someplace and be roasting coffee again before we get back to the beach! So is the Bake Shop in Lewes still open? Last I heard they had no connection to Oby Lee's but they seemed to have the same coffee when I was in there last year.

          Thanks for the updates!

The Bake Shop appears to be very successful. I think they have a local following which is important around here since it is so dead in the winter.
The last time I was in Oby Lee's I asked about my favorite cranberry oatbran muffins since they were the same as The Bake Shop's. He told me they shared the same baker for some of their offerings. He said the coffee was not the same, but still I wondered. The bags and labels and all looked the same to me.

Oby Lee in Rehoboth and Amy of the Lewes Bake Shop were partners at one point; they went their seperate ways but still shared certain resources, perhaps for the bulk discount?
