Torta Ahogada
I'm not sure how new this sandwich is at Pineda, but if you like spicy you should try this torta. I believe it translates to smothered sandwich. It was roast pork on a bolillo roll smothered and sitting in a pool of hotsauce made w/ chili de arbol (I think) topped with onions. I just had one today and it was very very good.

Kinda my new found foodie desire is wonderful tortas. I've always wanted to stop in no-name (to CH at least) places off of Lake St and try one. Anybody have some hole-in-the-wall favorites?
My favorite so far is right in my neighborhood at Dominguez Family Restaurant. They have an awesome steak torta. Include your favorites at Manny's, etc, but if you know of lesser known places, I am up for a rec.›10 Replies-

Well, aside from being bummed that I missed this Chowdown, thanks, this is a great thread, what I was looking for. And now, sitting at my desk at 10:30 is making me ravenous with all the yummy photos. I think I will give Pineda a try first. The Torta Poblano KC612 wrote about sounds amazing as well.
And will probably make it down to Olmeca in Burnsville, but probably on the weekend.

I had a torta at Taco Riendo that seemed like it was out of a movie. A bit kitchen-sinky, but fun. I shudder to think of what the "torta for three" looks like.
About chow-downs. What are the new rules for posting/responding? I've responded to a couple, only to see our comment thread get deleted.

It's been awhile, but I have organized and attended many chowdowns and as far as I know the rules have stayed the same over the years. The rules for organizing chowdowns are in the posting etiquette. Here's a link: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/3676...
