I will be heading to Carolina Beach in May. I'm pretty familiar with the Pleasure Island scene but I've lost touch with the downtown and Wrightsville Beach. I'm looking for a recommendation for an anniversary meal. The only criteria would be a focus on seafood. Price, at least for this meal, is not issue. As a point of reference, I've always enjoyed the food at Port Land and Grille as well as Deluxe.....and I'm not opposed to going back to either but I wonder if I'm missing something.

You say you are familiar with Carolina Beach, but there is a pretty new place on the island you might not know about - Surf House Cafe. It's at 604 North Lake Park and isn't for the anniversary meal, but you should check it out for lunch or a casual dinner. It is a relaxed place and the food is fresh, inventive, and delicious. I love the mahi sandwich, turkey cuban, and BLT, and they have nice options for sides like marinated chickpeas. Also - Black Horn at the boardwalk has new owners and the food is much better.

We think alike. Surf House is on my lunch radar. Anything else new and promising? It's a short trip(2 lunches and 2 dinners). At this point, I'm locked into Catch,Surf House, Deluxe or Jerry's and maybe the Shucking Shack. It's a rare childless trip for us, so we're holding off on any kid friendly places(like Black Horn) until the return family vacation. I've heard pretty bad things about Tangerines......have you been to Harbour Masters?
