Need lunch and dinner recc's not far from Westin in Philly
I'm staying at the Westin on 17th for business. My business meetings are all on that blcok as well. First, I need a few great lunch recc's in walking distance. I don't need fancy places, but am looking for more of a great philly eating experience. For dinner, we don't need to stay close and will gladly travel. Again, the places don't have to be high end, it's more about something great and unique to Philly. Thanks.
You are in luck with your location, right in the middle of everything.
-You are right by Argan, a funky, down the stairs Moroccan sandwich place with a great lamb sandwich
- I agree with bluehen that Trading Co serves as a great classy but casual lunch spot, with the added benefits of outdoor seating and the Garces name to comply with your desire to keep it representative of Philly
- On a weekday, there can be no more of a classic Philly lunch than a DiNics sandwich in Reading Terminal
There are lots of good places close by. If I were you, I'd do lunch at the Sansom St. Oyster House (1500 block of Sansom), then dinner at Kanella at 10th and Spruce. Kanella is BYO, so stop at the wine store on the 1200 block of Chestnut before you go. If you'd rather not BYO, some other great places near there include Tinto (20th and Sansom), Pub and Kitchen and Meritage (across the street from each other at 20th and Lombard). Fish (17th and Lombard) is very good too. If you don't mind taking a cab, my favorite restaurant in the city is Zahav at 2nd and Dock St. Kanella is fantastic too, though, and you can walk there.
Some other lunch options include the Good Dog (great burger and fries, good beers on draft) and Parc (noisy French bistro).
You have lots of good recommendations from Buckethead.
Dinner: Just to juggle the order a bit, if you like fish and seafood, don't miss Fish. It's on Lombard Street just a few doors from 17th. It's a current favorite. Has a bar (a good one).
Meritage is creative and delicious; Lombard at 20th. All these places are informal.
We really like Good Dog (on 15th) for burgers and beer, or Parc for something a little more upscale. The Oyster House if you are an oyster lover - definitely a Philly place.
We're in the minority who didn't love Kanella. Browse and make up your own mind.
Tria is also close by (wine bar with small plates) as is Estia (Greek, pricey but has good $30 lunch special with whole grilled fish and octopus that is amazing). Good Dog is good for burgers at lunch as is Argan for Moroccan sandwiches (especially the dsavory lamb). You may also want to try the Garces Trading Company for lunch, as it's close by, as well as DiNic's at Reading Terminal Market (what is more Philly?). And get ice cream from Bassett's in the market or bacio gelato at either of the Capogiro's near your hotel.
And I thought I was the only one who was not bowled over by Kanella!
