re: vinosnob
They are damn good, but the Larder at Tavern's chocolate chip cookies are the best and you have your choice of chewy or crispy. I love the chewy. I do agree about Clementine's brownie's. Love them. If it is possible that one might want to eschew chocolate, the butterscotch brownie, is OMG. As to Bite: I love the pastries and the food and bought a brownie for my husband, as he seriously loves chocolate. He did not particularly care for Bite's version of the brownie. Thought it was too much frosting; more frosting than cake.

if you're open to thinking beyond brownies and chocolate chip cookies, i'd definitely suggest checking out Jin Patisserie in Venice and Amandine in Santa Monica. Huckleberry has also been getting a lot of love for their pastries...

Let me preface this by suggesting that if possible, don't limit yourself to just chocolate chip cookies and brownies, or maybe that's just me talking to myself because I could never limit myself to just a couple of things. Bite on Pico in Santa Monica would be worth your trip as long as you have wheels. They're a little more pricey than the average bakery but well worth it and the portion sizes are generous as well. Bite puts a strong focus on perfection from every angle. I just split one of their brownies with my kids and it was uber-chocolatey with epsresso overtones. Nice ganache topping that is garnished with cocoa nibs. It's on the sweet side but if you're enjoying this with milk or a hot drink, it would be perfect. I haven't had their chocolate chip cookie as of yet, but can vouch for their cookies in general. The style is big and thick. About 3-4 inches in diameter and about 3/4 of an inch thick and loaded with whatever is described as the flavor.
The Curious Palate on Venice in Mar Vista has a couple of really good chocolate chip cookie variants and they're gi-normous - probably about six inches in diameter. I recall them carrying brownies as well - I haven't tried them but they'd be worth a try as the owners really try to put a focus on the sourcing of their ingredients.

I almost forgot - if you're seeking a really deep dark chocolatey cookie, you could also try 3 Square's Double Chocolate cookie. They are located on Abbot Kinney in Venice, but their bakery is Rockenwagner which is located on Washington, just east of Beethoven in "Culver Vista." You won't have to fight for parking at the bakery location.

re: bulavinaka
I just split one of the Bite Bar chocolate chip cookies with my boyfriend last night and he, the chocolate chip cookie lover of the pair, absolutely loved them. I'm not much of a lover of sweets generally, but these are really delicious. I like the ones at Curious Palate, but the ones at Bite Bar are better, to my taste (I prefer the thick, chewy style). I also got a slice of the chocolate bread pudding they had on special yesterday (this was because I had to work all weekend felt I owed myself all this and flowers to make up for it). Divine!
