The Blue Pig is re-opened under new ownership

I happened to be passing by Croton on Saturday (May Day) afternoon and stopped into the Blue Pig with my daughter. We were warmly welcomed by the woman behind the counter who encouraged us to try any and all the flavors. I asked about the ownership and she told me that the new owner had taken over and is using all new recipes. My daughter got the "Really Good Chocolate" and reported that it was well named. I got the Ginger and found it good, if a little tame.

After we got our cones, we walked outside to the patio and me the new owner, Lisa, who informed me that she had officially opened up the night before. She explained that she is locally sourcing the milk and as much of the ingredients as possible and keeping the fruit flavors seasonal. She is friendly with the owner of the Black Cow (the original Blue Pig owner, not the one Lisa bought from) and is using his coffee in the coffee ice cream. She also told me that she is making all of the ice cream herself from her own recipes. She couldn't have been nicer, and she told me that the hours will be regular - two traits which the previous ownership apparently did not share.

All in all, I heartily recommend that you give it a try if you are anywhere near Croton and feel the need for some wonderful homemade ice cream. You can also sample her ice cream at Umami.
